Welcome to our new website
Based in the UK and working mainly in the North East of England, Nigel’s images, often taken close to home are frequently described as dramatic and powerful with skies which are both striking and colourful. Following early retirement from the steel industry he has a renewed passion in life, and for his new profession and this is clearly evident in his work.
Nigel’s interest in photography started in his late teens when he joined the company photographic society; then ICI at Wilton. Having started out owning a classic Zenith E, a beginners favourite, he quickly became a key player at the ICI Wilton Photographic Club, winning several of the coveted trophies there. He then moved on to Nikon cameras, followed inevitably by medium format by way of the Bronica ETRS series. However, the quality was not as expected so soon moved back to Nikon again as his personal favourite.
His early days in business started 16years ago, following many years in heavy industry as a mechanical engineer. Following the closure of the Teesside steelworks Nigel switched to becoming a professional photographer selling his landscape pictures through several local galleries and art shops. He has been lucky enough to sell his pictures all over the world including Australia, Dubai, Spain and Canada, and of course here in the UK.
Printing and framing came later as a necessity in producing high quality products for his customers. The very strength of his personal nature.
Nigel has a love of black and white photography. Asked why, “well black and white can add a new dimension to the world in the way in which we normally see it. A different way. Colour can sometimes be distracting, yet the same scene in black and white can be powerful, dramatic and subtle at the same time”. It can also be “very technical to capture and create a great black and white image, and I like that”.
Almost exclusively, work is through recommendation from clients who are satisfied and appreciative of the high quality and fast turnaround times that Nigel has earned a reputation for.
Whilst these days, things are now a little quieter, partly now retired, Nigel does still offer a service to past clients, family and friends when required.
The last word . . . after being a staunch user of Canon professional photographic equipment for many years, Nigel has recently been converted once again back to using his old favourite, Nikon camera gear. The coveted Hassleblad is still pending.
